Spot

Martin Lake Road
(906) 643-8322
In the early 1950's, three surveyors stumbled across an area of land of
about 300 feet in diameter where their surveying equipment did not seem to work
properly. They were also constantly light headed. Millions have now visited this
spot and experienced an unusual sensation. A tall person seems smaller by
comparison, and you can climb a wall and tilt precariously into the air without
falling. Besides a guided tour of the world famous mystery spot, you can have
more fun at the maze, mini golf, game arcade, and our souvenir and gift shop.

State Park, St. Ignace, Michigan
Local History
Here in 1671, the
French Jesuit, Jacques Marquette, founded the mission of St. Ignace, naming it
for St. Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits. A fortress was built
shortly thereafter. In 1701, the garrison moved to Detroit
and St. Ignace's military importance was no more.
Its settlers first
called it Mackinac and it is on Farmer's old maps as Ancient Fort
Mackinac. Francis LaPointe owned and occupied land here before 1812, later
selling to Dousman family which in turn, in 1857, sold it to the brothers David,
Patrick and Michael Murray. Peter W. Hombach became its first postmaster
on November 3, 1871. Incorporated as a village in 1882 and as a city in
1883. The site of old Fort de Buade.
