Back to Campgrounds in Michigan Back to State Parks and Camping in Michigan This scenic site provides an opportunity to camp along the shores of Lake Superior - "By the shores of Gitche Gumme, by the Shining Big-Sea-Waters." Experience miles of sandy beach and beautiful sunsets across Lake Superior, the greatest single body of fresh water in the world. Listen carefully. You may hear the woeful cry of a loon early in the evening. Relax and enjoy the sights and sounds that early explorers once enjoyed. Bay View Campground is located 6 miles north of Raco (M-28) on Forest Road 3154 to Dollar Settlement, then 2 miles west on Forest Road 3150 (Lake Shore Drive) . It is approximately 27 miles west of Sault Ste. Marie. Camping Swimming Picnic Area Hiking The North Country Trail crosses Lake Shore Drive about 10 miles west of the campground. North of the highway, the trail provides a beautiful walk through hemlock, spruce, and pine along Lake Superiors's shoreline. Fishing The Pendills Creek Fish Hatchery provides an interesting insight into the work being done to increase the trout population in the Great Lakes. Personnel at the hatchery will be glad to answer any questions. General Information Groceries are available 2 miles east at Dollar Settlement. Restaurants are found along Lake Shore Drive east. Bay View Campground is a fee area. The Golden Age and Golden Access Passport are accepted. No ORVs are allowed between Lake Shore Drive and the shoreline of Lake Superior. Contact
