This scenic site provides an opportunity to camp along the shores of Lake Superior - "By the shores of Gitche Gumme, by the Shining Big-Sea-Waters." Experience miles of sandy beach and beautiful sunsets across Lake Superior, the greatest single body of fresh water in the world. Listen carefully. You may hear the woeful cry of a loon early in the evening. Relax and enjoy the sights and sounds that early explorers once enjoyed.

Bay View Campground is located 6 miles north of Raco (M-28) on Forest Road 3154 to Dollar Settlement, then 2 miles west on Forest Road 3150 (Lake Shore Drive) . It is approximately 27 miles west of Sault Ste. Marie.

Camping
There are 24 campsites settled beneath red and white pine, oak, maple, and white birch trees, and just a few steps from the sandy beach. Tables and fire rings are at each site. Drinking water and toilets are conveniently spaced throughout the campground. Bay View Campground has a camp host during the summer months.

Swimming
The sandy beach is perfect for sunbathing, wading, and swimming. The waters of Lake Superior can be cold. Swimming is at your own risk. There are no lifeguards.

Picnic Area
Pine picnic area is located 1 mile east of Bay View Campground, and is ideal for larger groups of daytime visitors.

Hiking
There are no specific trails at the campground, but there are miles of beautiful beaches for you to walk and explore.

The North Country Trail crosses Lake Shore Drive about 10 miles west of the campground. North of the highway, the trail provides a beautiful walk through hemlock, spruce, and pine along Lake Superiors's shoreline.

Fishing
Fishing for lake trout and salmon is available at the mouth of numerous rivers and creeks which are bridged by Lake Shore Drive. Ample parking is provided. Boat launch and carry-in access are clearly marked. Ask the campground host about these fishing spots.

The Pendills Creek Fish Hatchery provides an interesting insight into the work being done to increase the trout population in the Great Lakes. Personnel at the hatchery will be glad to answer any questions.

General Information
Feel free to ask a Forest Service Officer for the times and places of recreation events in the area. Besides the activities planned in the local communities, the officer can also offer you guidance and direction to other interesting places to visit.

Groceries are available 2 miles east at Dollar Settlement. Restaurants are found along Lake Shore Drive east.

Bay View Campground is a fee area. The Golden Age and Golden Access Passport are accepted.

No ORVs are allowed between Lake Shore Drive and the shoreline of Lake Superior.
