Local History

Mrs. Thompson, a widow, built the first house here in 1832 and her son William kept a store in an addition to it.  That part of present South Lyons was called Thompson's Corners.  In 1832, the legislature named the township for Lucius Lyon, a member.  The village named from its location in the township was given a post office in July of 1848.  Incorporated as a village in 1873 and as a city in 1930.
