Local History

Messrs. Barker and Pratt began the first business here in 1869.  The village, first called Orient, after its township, was renamed for an early surveyor for the Flint & Pere Marquette Railroad, which came through here in 1870.  Nelson Ferguson became its first postmaster on December 8, 1871.
