Local History
It was founded in 1845
by George C. Robinson, of Detroit, and was known as
the Robinson recorded plat. It was renamed after the county, which had
been named after a county in Ireland.
Alfred Bennett became
its first postmaster on January 9, 1873. It has been the county seat since
1875. Incorporated as a village in 1882.
