State Parks and Camping in MichiganLocal HistoryLevi Pettibone became the first settler in present Milford Township in 1827. Among those who came in before 1836 were Jabesh M. Mead, Aaron Phelps and lumen Fuller. Mr. Mead made and recorded the first plat of the village and built the first store, and Mr. Phelps became the first postmaster, all in 1836. Its post office dates from May 28, 1836. Incorporated as a village in 1869. The Huron River and Pettibone Creek were the means of furnishing such valuable water power as to give the village and the township their name.
