Local History

Located on land owned by William Fitzgerald, the place was also known as Fitzgerald.  He sold 80 acres to R. Kearney, who platted the village in 1872.  Ambrose Atwood became the first postmaster of Maple Valley, named after its township, on March 4, 1872.  For local lumberman, Lucius B. Kendall, the place was also known as Kendall Mills.
