Local History

Located on Devil's Lake.  Manitou was the Indian word for great spirit, good or evil, and given here, the name is believed to bear out the reason given for the naming of Devil's Lake.  The Pottawatomi were driven out in 1834.  As the white settlement formed here in Rollin Township it was given a post office on March 20, 1889.  A station on the C., J. & M.
