Campgrounds in MichiganLocal HistoryThe first settler, Perry Andress, homesteaded here with his family in 1869. Leander C. Handy and A. D. Carpenter opened the first store in 1872. Mr. Handy, who bought the first lot, built the first frame building and otherwise promoted the village, is considered its founder. A station on the Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad.
