Local HistoryDaniel Marsac, from Detroit, built a trading post on the south bank of the Grand River in 1831. In 1847, he bought land on the north bank, platted and named it Dansville. It was given a post office as Lowell, after its township, on June 17, 1851. The village was replatted by Richards and Wickham in 1854 and renamed after its post office.
