Located in Missaukee County

 

Local History

Daniel Reeder built the first log cabin beside Muskrat (now Missaukee) Lake in 1868 and he became the first postmaster of Reeder on January 22, 1872.  By a one vote margin it was chosen the site of the county seat in 1873.  A station on the Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad, it was renamed Lake City on January 25, 1877.  Platted and incorporated as a village in 1889 and as a city in 1932.
