Heritage through our Ancestors Local HistoryC. D. Hale came from New York State and began lumbering in the northwest part of Iosco County about 1880. His camps were located at the lake there, and the lake and the creek, as well as this village were named for him. A flag station on the Detroit, Bay City & Alpena Railroad.
