BusinessesHeritage through our Ancestors Hospitals Restaurants Local HistoryComprises of five separate communities which are: Grosse Pointe City, Grosse Pointe Farms, Grosse Pointe Park, Grosse Pointe Shores, Grosse Pointe Woods. Together they extend from the Detroit city limits just over the Wayne-Macomb County line, and form most of the present Grosse Pointe Township, which was separated from Hamtramck in 1848. Grosse Pointe was named from the point of land projecting into Lake St. Clair, which forms the eastern boundary of the township. First settled by the French, some of whom were descendants of those who came to Detroit with Cadillac in 1701. By 1834, they were numerous enough here to build St. Paul's church.
