Local HistoryH. Mason, a speculator, made the first land entry here in 1831, but it was sold for taxes four years later. Edmund L. Lamson made the first permanent settlement in 1848, for Henry A. Trench, whom he found living here, later moved away. In 1850, Mrs. Lamson suggested the name after the Grand River running past and the great ledge of rocks nearby.
