State Parks and Camping in MichiganLocal HistoryRix Robinson built a trading post here in 1833. In 1834, he, together with Reverend William M. Ferry, Robert Stuart and Nathan M. White formed the New Haven Company to develop the area. Mr. Robinson had C. Burns plat and record the village of Grand Haven (named from its location at the mouth of the Grand River, near Lake Michigan). Incorporated as a city in 1867.
