The University of Michigan Golf Course serves as the home for both the Wolverine men's and women's cross country and golf teams. The golf course, noted for its aesthetic beauty and scenic hills, was designed by renowned golf course designer Alister MacKenzie. The course opened in 1931, and in the fall of 1992 underwent a $3.3 million restoration, "The Renaissance of the Michigan Golf Course." Completed in the spring of 1994, the 18-hole U-M course was returned to its grand, original style.
The 5,000-meter women's and 8,000-meter men's cross country trail follows the golf courses rolling terrain. Loops up, down and around the numerous hills make the Michigan cross country course among the most challenging in the Midwest. The course concludes with a run up the 18th hole fairway.
