Garland...
Michigan's Finest Golf Resort!
When you think of 'Garland', what immediately comes to
mind is one of Michigan's most outstanding year-round
resorts. If you love golf, the outdoors, or both, Garland
is the perfect resort for you! They have 72 holes of
championship golf in a dazzling wilderness setting.
Fountains
Course
Garland's newest 18 hole championship layout is
the Fountains, which features water on 9 of the holes and is highlighted by
spectacular water fountains throughout the course. This course is Michigan
golf at its finest! Completed in 1999, the course measures 6,760 yards from
the back tees and has six par 3s, six par 4s, and six par 5s. It is quite
unique among Michigan golf courses because the finishing hole of each 9 is a
par 3.
The drive between the first and second holes provides a truly memorable
Michigan golf memory because you will cross the longest single span bridge in
the world. It is just one more of the wonderful aspects of Garland golf that
seem to never end!
The most memorable hole on the Fountains Course is undoubtedly the 7th, which
is a 580 yard par 5 and is one of the most challenging golf holes in Michigan.
It is the longest at Garland and is a handful for even the best golfers. It is
not only long, but the green is guarded by water and strategically placed sand
traps.
The 15th is a short par 5 that gives
golfers many options. Long hitters can get home in two with a mid iron. The
green is heavily guarded with bunkers in front and water that wraps around 2/3
of the green. Although it is tempting to go for it in 2, the smart shot is to
lay up short, and play a small wedge into the undulating green. Birdie is very
attainable, but so is double bogey.
The 18th is a great finishing hole with lots of
character. A mid length par 3 that calls for a precise shot over a pond that
protects a large green. The putting surface is rather flat, but the back half
slopes towards the front. Par is a good score.
Reflections
Course
Reflections
Course is the most forgiving of the championship layouts
and one of the most golfer-friendly in Michigan. Playing
at a comfortable 6,407 from the back tees, its holes are
perfectly balanced with six par 3s, six par 4s, and 6 par
5s. Its lush fairways are routed through majestic pine
trees, crossing sparkling streams along the way. It is the
perfect Michigan golf course for the avid golfer who
enjoys shooting a good score.
The first hole that really gets your attention is the 555
yard 5th, probably the most demanding golf hole on the
course. The tee shot must be played conservatively to
avoid the large stream 260 yards out from the tee. This
means longer second and third shots to get in position for
your birdie putt.
Immediately following the 5th, is the 150 yard 6th hole, a
stunning par 3 that reminds our guests of the 16th hole at
the Augusta National. The crystal clear lake stretches
from tee to green, making a well-struck shot a necessity.
This hole could be a postcard for Michigan golf.
The general consensus is that the 16th hole, a 175 yard
par 3, is one of the finest golf holes at Garland, and in
the entire state of Michigan. It is worthy of the high
praise because of its picturesque setting among the
towering trees, with sand and water prevalent in the
vicinity of the green.
Monarch
Course
This
magnificent Monarch Course is aptly named! It is considered by many as Garland's
ruling layout, primarily because of its length and the number of holes
where water comes into play. You will encounter streams, ponds, and lakes on 14
holes. The Monarch is Michigan golf at its best!
One of Michigan's longest golf courses, at a formidable 7,188 yards from the
back tees, Monarch gives you all the challenge you could want and more. Its 10
par 4 holes are each an individual test that needs to be faced to get that
elusive low score. Golfers from throughout Michigan and the Nation who travel to
Garland to play our Monarch course.
There is no easing into your round on Monarch. The first hole carries the number
1 handicap, which is rare in Michigan golf. It is a 450 yard par 4 that requires
a well struck second shot to clear the large lake in front of the green.
The 2nd hole offers little relief, because of the demanding tee shot required to
keep the ball in the fairway, avoiding the woods on the right and the water
hazard on the left. Once you have finished this hole, you will be relieved to
have gotten by this most difficult starting stretch.
The 16th hole is just a great golf hole one of the finest in Michigan! Playing
at 438 yards from the back tee, it requires a precise tee shot to get in
position at the dogleg, which bends left, for a good look at the green. The
second shot must clear water to reach the green. It is a hole where a par feels
like a birdie!
