Local History

Luman Beach and Addison Stewart settled here in 1833.  Most settlers came from Genesee County, New York.  

Former names were Mt. Morris, Geneseeville and Genesee Village, shortened to Genesee in 1892.  The name is from the Seneca joneshi:yoh, meaning beautiful valley.
