Local History

 

In 1835 Charles Seymour bought land here.  In 1836 Horace Jerome added water-power.  Together Seymour and Jerome operated a sawmill.  

Mr. Seymour platted the village in 1840 and his brother James added a second plat in 1847.  

 

The first post office opened in 1839.  Incorporated into a village in 1877.
