Local History

Martin Reese migrated here from New England about 1850, homesteading on virgin forest.  In 1861, William Smyth Farmer and R. J. Tulle, supervisor, applied for a post office which Mr. Farmer named for a sparkling creek nearby (French for clear water).  Incorporated as a village in 1891.
