Heritage through our Ancestors Local HistoryThomas W. Langley became the first settler, building a tavern here in 1831. Columbia Lancaster built the first home on land which the proprietors had given him for services rendered. Its plat was recorded on November 17, 1831, and 15 days later made the county seat.
