Local HistorySamuel Dexter (of Dexter, Michigan) made the first land purchase here in 1824. Four men known as the Byron Co. bought this land in 1836 and platted the village in 1837. Named after the British poet, Lord Byron, the town was one of the largest in the county in the 1840's and became a principal supply center for the Shiawassee Valley during the last half of the 19th century; Incorporated as a village in 1873.
