Local HistoryFirst known as Cass Bend for a sharp bend in the Cass River here; the Bridgeport Post Office (1836) changed to the Cass Bridge in 1864 and closed in 1904. In the township, another Post Office named Bridgeport Centre has operated since 1851; its name was changed to Bridgeport in 1880, named for the numerous bridges in the area.
