Hickok & Brown Families

Coral and Maple Valley, Michigan

Hi:  I'm told that my great grandmother, Ellen Brown moved there at about the age of 10 with her family, traveling by covered wagon from Pennsylvania.  .  Her parents were Lorenzo Brown and Clarissa Nye Brown.  Sometime after 1872 she married Sidney Hickok who came to Coral to visit family, namely his sister Calista after serving in the Civil War.  Ellen and Sidney had a candy store in Coral, but later moved to a 10 acre parcel in Maple Valley Township.  This land had belonged to Lorenzo Brown and when he died he left it to the children.  Sidney and Ellen bought out the other childrens shares and their first three children were born there. Burt, Claude and Nettie Pearl, my grandmother.  They eventually moved back east to Ohio (Trumbull Co.) where Sidney's family had a farm.  Can anyone put me touch with someone who can provide data about land, deeds, city directories from the early days of Coral?  I would be so appreciative.

Thank you,

John Claude Gummoe
