Local HistoryThe village in Bowne Township was founded by David N. Skidmore in 1845. Daniel C. McVean became its first postmaster on September 5, 1851. A station on the Detroit, Grand Rapids & Western Railroad. It was so named by Lucy Skidmore McVean from its being the highest point of land.
